The crash happened in the Windham County town of Chaplin at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, Connecticut State Police reported.

Lindsey Bidwell, of Windham, was driving a 2017 Nissan Maxima west on Route 6 near the intersection with Nyberg Road when she attempted to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, police said.

The Nissan crossed over the double yellow centerline and entered into the eastbound lanes, colliding with an eastbound Connecticut State Police vehicle, identified as a 2021 Ford F-350, authorities said.

Police said the Ford then entered the eastbound roadside and rolled over onto its side.

The Nissan came to a rest in the left eastbound lane and westbound lane, State Police reported.

Bidwell sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to Hartford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The driver of the Ford, a 37-year-old Connecticut State Police trooper from Middletown, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, police reported.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Police asked witnesses to email Sgt. Mark DiCocco at mark.dicocco@ct.gov.
